Z.N. Hurston was an American author of short stories and four novels. She is most known for as Their Eyes Were Watching God. She was also a folklorist and anthropologist.

She wrote her Georgetown trilogy as well as stand alone Gothic and supernatural novels as Barbara Michaels and writes the Amelia Peabody series and other mystery series as Elizabeth Peters. She uses Barbara Mertz, her actual name, for non-fiction work.
