C. J. Cherryh (1942-)

Carolyn Janice Cherry is an American Science Fiction & Fantasy writer who hid her gender behind her pen name, C. J. Cherryh, during an era when Sci-Fi writers were expected to be male. She is most known for her novels set in her Alliance-Union universe, including Hugo winning novels, Downbelow Station (1981) and Cyteen (1988).

When I saw her picture before I read farther down, I said to myself- I always thought Cherryh was a guy. Thanks for that info. I believe the last book I read from her had to do with lions or something like that on the jacket cover. It was a long time ago and the brain cells don’t work as good anymore.
